What is an LTAC?
An LTAC is a Long Term Acute Care hospital designed for patients that are acutely ill and require a physician's care each day, just as in a "traditional" hospital, but are medically complex and not going to be ready for discharge in a short period of time.
Most LTAC patients are transferred from a traditional hospital for a continuum of acute care, but they can also be admitted from a skilled nursing facility, home, or a physician's office. Just as with any hospital admission, the patient must meet criteria and have admission orders from their physician.
A typical LTAC patient may require care for:
- Ventilator Management
- Sepsis or multi-organ failure
- Stage III or IV wounds
- Negative pressure wound therapy (VAC)
- History of multiple readmissions to acute care hospitals
- Any of the following services:
- Chest tubes
- Extensive wound care
- Stable cardiac drip
- Multiple IV antibiotics
- Hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis
- Prolonged IV therapy
- TPN
- Trach care/extensive pulmonary services
- Vent weaning
Our goal for each of our patients is to return them to their highest level of function and wellness.
